BCCI PREPARES BLUEPRINT: Increase in Salary Purse for Teams, Bid The BCCI prepares a blueprint for the IPL with two new teams to introduced. Alongside player retention, mega auction, increment in salary purse as well as media rights tender too.

The new IPL team’s tender will come out in mid-August.

It will be a mandatory check, with the bid to be open in mid-October for phase 2 of the IPL. Even the business groups such as RP Sanjiv Goenka Group (Kolkata), the Adani Group (Ahmedabad), Aurobindo Pharma Ltd (Hyderabad), the Torrent Group (Gujarat) have shown their interest so far.

Also, the salary purse for the teams is expected to increase up to INR 90 crore. A mean adding Rs 50 crore to the total salary pool(among 10 franchises).In the next years, the amount may rise to 100 crores ahead of the 2024 season.

Teams will have to spend a minimum of 75% of the amount.

Retention of players

About the retention of players, each team can retain its four players.

Teams can retain three Indians and one overseas player or two Indians and two overseas players.The teams must deduct the specified amounts from the salary purse before the auction.The salary will be deducted in a particular structure as Rs 15 cr, Rs 11 cr, Rs 7 cr if three players retained, Rs 12.5 cr and Rs 8.5 cr for two players, and Rs 12.5 cr for one player

Some of the players will look themselves ahead for the auction pool rather than going for retention. As there’s an increase in the salary purse and two new teams are being added. That’s where will be a rush to grab talent.

The media auction will be at the end of 2021. The month of March being potentially available from the 2023 IPL, BCCI will conduct 90 plus matches between 10 teams. Also, the media rights will surge by a minimum of 25%.
